Our Crystal Ball Says: Get Ready for the 2026 Colors of the Year! (So Far!)

Have you ever wondered how those beautiful mood boards and color palettes come to life in magazines and on your favorite design blogs? Well, a huge part of it comes down to the annual Color of the Year announcements! It’s like a sneak peek into the future of home decor, and we love uncovering trendsetter predictions that will be gracing our walls and spaces.

Speaking of predictions, can you believe we’re already talking about 2026? I say this every year, but I really feel like this year went by faster than ever!  It feels like just yesterday we were poring through the 2025 picks! But here we are, with the first few contenders for 2026 already making their grand entrance.  Ready, set, check it out!

A Look Back: Our Favorite Hues from 2024 & 2025

Okay so let’s first rewind and revisit the Colors of the Year from 2024 and 2025. It’s always fascinating to see how trends evolve and shift, isn’t it? Last year, 2025, was all about those wonderfully moody browns, purples, and mauves. It was surprisingly consistent across most brands, creating a cohesive, cozy, and sophisticated vibe that we absolutely adored. Think rich, earthy tones that enveloped a room in warmth and comfort. I’m not usually a purple gal but I loved adding a couple of dusty fig colored throw blankets to our living room sofas and I realize how much I had been missing out on this color in my life!  I love how color trends get experimenting and playing a bit more with colors in your home.

Anyway, contrast that with 2024, which was a delightful kaleidoscope of variety! We saw everything from warm, inviting shades to cool, serene blues, and a mix of light and dark tones. It was a year of exploration, where brands truly embraced individuality in their selections. This kind of retrospective really highlights how dynamic the world of color and design can be.

It makes us wonder, will 2026 bring us back to a more unified palette, or will we continue to see brands express their unique visions? The suspense is half the fun, right?

The Big Reveal: Our First Glimpse at the 2026 Colors of the Year (So Far!)

Alright, drumroll please! Even though it’s still 2025, a couple of major players have dropped their highly anticipated 2026 Colors of the Year. I will be updating this section as more announcements roll in, so keep us bookmarked 🙂

Behr: Hidden Gem

First up, we have Behr, who has once again embraced the darker, richer side of the spectrum with their 2026 pick: Hidden Gem. This color is a stunner! Behr describes it as a “smokey jade with an air of mystery,” and I couldn’t agree more. It’s a deep, sophisticated green that feels both grounding and luxurious. It’s bold enough to make a statement, yet its desaturated quality makes it incredibly versatile and surprisingly easy to live with, even on all four walls.

Why We Love It: Hidden Gem reminds us of those beautiful, deep forest greens you see in nature, bringing a sense of calm and organic elegance indoors. It’s a color that truly transforms a space, adding depth and character without overwhelming it. We’ve been seeing a strong trend towards these moody, enveloping colors, and Hidden Gem fits right in, offering a fresh take on a classic hue.

Pairing Perfection: To truly make Hidden Gem sing, consider pairing it with warm metallics like brushed brass or antique gold for a touch of glamour. Natural wood tones, from light oak to rich walnut, will enhance its organic feel. For a softer contrast, think about creamy off-whites or light grays. If you’re feeling adventurous, a pop of dusty rose or a deep terracotta could create a surprisingly harmonious and inviting palette.

Room by Room Inspiration:

  • Living Room: Imagine a feature wall in Hidden Gem, adorned with gallery-style art in gold frames. Pair it with a plush cream sofa, natural fiber rugs, and dark wood furniture for a sophisticated and cozy retreat.
  • Bedroom: This color would create an incredibly serene and cocoon-like atmosphere. Use it on all walls (as we have discussed a few times on here, “color drenching”) for a truly immersive experience, or as an accent behind your headboard. Crisp white linens and soft lighting will complete the tranquil vibe.
  • Dining Room: Hidden Gem can elevate your dining space, making it feel intimate and elegant. Consider painting the lower half of the walls with this shade and the upper half in a lighter neutral, OR use it to highlight a built-in cabinet.

DIY Project Idea: The Hidden Gem Accent Table

Ready to dip your toes into this gorgeous color without committing to a whole wall? Find a small, inexpensive side table or nightstand from a thrift store or even one you already own. Give it a good sanding, prime it, and then paint it with Behr’s Hidden Gem. Once dry, you can add new brass hardware for an instant upgrade. This little pop of color will bring a sophisticated touch to any corner of your home!

Valspar: Warm Eucalyptus

Next up, Valspar has unveiled their 2026 Color of the Year, Warm Eucalyptus, and it’s a breath of fresh air! This muted, earthy gray-green is described by Valspar as “restful to the eye” and, consequently, “restful to the soul.” How lovely is that? It’s a color that truly embodies tranquility and a connection to nature, perfect for creating a calming sanctuary in your home.

Why We Love It: Warm Eucalyptus is a testament to the evolving definition of neutrals. Valspar argues that neutrals aren’t colorless; instead, they are inviting, calming, and grounding hues that feel restorative. We couldn’t agree more! This shade is incredibly versatile, offering a subtle yet impactful way to bring a sense of peace and balance into any space. It’s a sophisticated alternative to traditional grays and beiges, adding a touch of organic warmth.

Pairing Perfection: Warm Eucalyptus pairs beautifully with other natural tones. Think light wood finishes, creamy whites, and soft grays for a serene and cohesive look. For a subtle pop of color, consider incorporating muted blues or soft terracotta. Textured fabrics like linen, cotton, and wool will enhance its earthy appeal, creating a truly inviting atmosphere.

Room by Room Inspiration:

  • Bathroom: Transform your bathroom into a spa-like oasis with Warm Eucalyptus on the walls. Pair it with white subway tile, natural wood vanity, and lush green plants for a truly refreshing space.
  • Nursery/Kids Room: This gentle, calming color is perfect for a nursery or a child’s bedroom, promoting a sense of peace and quiet. It provides a beautiful backdrop for playful accents and colorful toys.
  • Home Office: Create a focused and serene workspace by painting your home office in Warm Eucalyptus. It’s a color that promotes concentration and reduces visual clutter, helping you stay productive and calm.

DIY Project Idea: Eucalyptus-Inspired Wall Art

Bring the essence of Warm Eucalyptus into your home with a simple DIY wall art project! Grab a plain canvas and some acrylic paints in shades of Warm Eucalyptus, a lighter cream, and a darker sage green. Using broad, sweeping strokes, create an abstract piece that evokes the natural beauty of eucalyptus leaves. You can even press real eucalyptus leaves onto the wet paint for added texture and a subtle botanical print. Frame it in a simple wooden frame, and you have a custom piece that perfectly complements Valspar’s calming hue.

Beyond the Paint Can: Embracing Color Trends Without a Brush

While a fresh coat of paint can work wonders, sometimes you want to embrace a new color trend without committing to painting an entire room (or even a single wall!). The good news is, you absolutely can! Incorporating the essence of colors like Hidden Gem or Warm Eucalyptus into your home is easier than you think, and it often involves playing with textures, accessories, and even natural elements.

Really, these Colors of the Year reflect more about design movements and consumer moods (not just paint, people!).  Hidden Gem, with its deep, mysterious jade, speaks to a desire for grounding, nature-inspired tranquility, and a touch of sophisticated drama. Warm Eucalyptus, on the other hand, embodies a craving for calm, restorative spaces, and a redefinition of what a ‘neutral’ can be. You can tap into these feelings and aesthetics without ever opening a paint can!

Here are some of our favorite ways to bring these beautiful trends into your home, no painting required:

  • Textiles are Your Best Friend: Swapping out throw pillows, blankets, or even curtains can instantly transform the feel of a room. Look for textiles in shades of deep jade, forest green, or muted gray-green. Consider different textures like velvet for a luxurious feel with Hidden Gem, or linen and cotton for the soft, earthy vibe of Warm Eucalyptus. A new area rug can also anchor a space and introduce a significant pop of color.
  • Accessorize, Accessorize, Accessorize: Vases, decorative bowls, candles, and picture frames are perfect for introducing accent colors. Imagine a collection of ceramic vases in varying shades of green on a bookshelf, or a few strategically placed candles in a deep, jewel-toned hue. Even small decorative objects can make a big impact.
  • Bring in Nature: Both Hidden Gem and Warm Eucalyptus are deeply rooted in nature–no shock here since there has been a huge Biophilic Design movement. Embrace this by incorporating more plants into your decor! Lush green houseplants, whether real or high-quality faux, will naturally complement these tones. For Warm Eucalyptus, consider dried floral arrangements or branches that echo its muted, earthy quality.
  • Artistic Touches: Wall art is a fantastic way to introduce color and personality. Look for prints or paintings that feature shades of jade, emerald, or eucalyptus green. Abstract pieces, botanical prints, or even landscape photography can tie into the natural inspiration behind these colors.
  • Furniture Finesse: While painting furniture is a DIY project we adore, you can also find smaller furniture pieces like accent chairs, ottomans, or even side tables in these trending colors. I just painted our Ikea wooden stool in the pantry warm eucalyptus and I’m loving the unexpected pop of color in such a utilitarian space and piece of furniture.
  • Lighting with Intent: The right lighting can enhance any color palette. For deeper, moodier tones like Hidden Gem, consider lamps with warm, ambient light to create a cozy atmosphere. For the calming effect of Warm Eucalyptus, natural light is key, but also think about lamps with soft, diffused light to maintain that serene feeling.

I think you get the point now–it’s all about layering and creating a cohesive, inviting space!

Our 2026 Color Predictions: What I’m Hoping to See!

Part of the fun of tracking the Colors of the Year is making our own guesses! While I don’t have a crystal ball (I wish!), I love to track design trends, so I like to believe I have a pretty good idea what’s coming ahead.

Here are MY predictions for the 2026 Colors of the Year.

My Guesses:

  • A Warm, Earthy Terracotta: Building on the natural and grounding trends, I predict a rich, sun-baked terracotta will make a strong appearance. It’s warm, inviting, and brings a touch of Mediterranean charm.
  • A Soft, Muted Lavender: After a few years of deeper, moodier tones, I think we’ll see a gentle shift towards more ethereal and calming pastels. A muted lavender would offer a sophisticated yet serene touch.
  • A Deep, Inky Teal: For those who love a dramatic statement, a very dark, almost black, teal could be a contender. It’s mysterious, luxurious, and pairs beautifully with both warm and cool accents.

I’ll be sure to update you as more Colors of the Year!
