Fall 2025’s Hottest Home Trends—And How to DIY Them for Less

There’s something about the end of summer, back to school, and the gradual drop in temperatures that feels like a new year, maybe more than New Years itself.  I inevitably feel the urge to refresh my living spaces, adding some warmth and comfort for the autumn season even though Autumn doesn’t really hit Austin until late October 🫠.

Fall 2025 is going to be a really fun time for home decor, when a love for texture and sensory experiences take center stage. This season is all about creating spaces that feel genuinely inviting, deeply personal, and effortlessly stylish. But here’s the best part: you don’t need to break the bank to embrace the trends this year! With a little creativity and some clever DIY, you can transform your home into a space that reflects the best of Fall 2025’s hottest looks, all while keeping your budget happily intact.

Embracing Comfort and Calm: Cozy Minimalism and Wellness

Fall 2025 ushers in an era where our homes are not just places to live, but sanctuaries designed to nurture our well-being. This season, the focus shifts towards creating environments that exude comfort, tranquility, and a sense of calm, blending aesthetic appeal with a profound emphasis on personal solace. Two prominent trends perfectly encapsulate this philosophy: the serene elegance of Japandi design and the growing importance of dedicated home wellness spaces.

Minimalist With a Cozy Twist (Japandi)

Imagine the clean lines and functional simplicity of Scandinavian design mixed with the serene, natural elegance of Japanese aesthetics. This beautiful fusion is called Japandi, and this trend is taking the interior design world by storm, evolving into a cozier, more inviting iteration for Fall 2025. At its core, Japandi embraces minimalism, but with a twist: it prioritizes warmth, comfort, and a lived-in feel over stark, cold austerity. Think natural materials like light-toned wood, bamboo, and ceramics, paired with a soothing neutral palette of soft whites, creams, and muted grays. The magic happens when these elements are softened with plush textiles, warm lighting, and carefully curated accents that invite relaxation and contemplation . It’s about creating a space that feels uncluttered yet incredibly inviting, a true retreat from the outside world.

Why it’s hot for Fall 2025: As our lives become increasingly fast-paced, the desire for a peaceful haven at home intensifies. Japandi offers just that – a serene backdrop for daily life, promoting mindfulness and a sense of calm. Its emphasis on natural elements also aligns perfectly with the autumnal shift, bringing the outdoors in and fostering a connection with nature.

DIY Them for Less:

  • Declutter and Simplify: This is the cornerstone of Japandi. Start by ruthlessly decluttering your space, keeping only items that are functional, beautiful, or hold sentimental value. Embrace the philosophy of Japanese concept of wabi-sabi  (talked about this before here in the context of Biophillic design), finding beauty in imperfection and transience. This costs nothing but yields immense visual and mental benefits.
  • Incorporate Natural Textures: Look for affordable linen throws, cotton cushions, or jute rugs to add softness and warmth. Instead of expensive bamboo furniture, consider DIYing simple shelves or side tables from reclaimed wood or even sturdy cardboard boxes covered with natural-toned fabric. Woven baskets from thrift stores can be excellent storage solutions that also add texture.  I have also had great luck at stores like Homegoods for baskets.
  • Warm Lighting: Ditch harsh overhead lights. Invest in inexpensive dimmable LED bulbs for existing fixtures. Candles, especially soy or beeswax, create a cozy ambiance and can be found affordably. You can even DIY candle holders from small pieces of wood or clay.  In fact, one of my most treasured decor pieces is a candle stand that Dax made from wood scraps at his preschool 🙂
  • Neutral Color Palette: A fresh coat of paint can work wonders. Opt for soft whites, creamy beiges, or light grays for your walls. These colors create a serene backdrop and make your space feel larger and brighter. For a subtle touch, consider painting an old piece of furniture in a complementary neutral shade.
  • DIY Bamboo or Light Wood Accents: For a true Japandi feel, incorporate light wood or bamboo elements. You can create simple wall art by arranging thin bamboo sticks on a canvas, or craft minimalist picture frames from light wood scraps. Even a small, carefully placed bamboo plant can make a big difference.

Home Wellness Spaces

I can’t pinpoint exactly when this happened but the concept of a dedicated home wellness space has moved from luxury to necessity in the past several years. For Fall 2025, this trend emphasizes creating personal havens within your home where you can de-stress, recharge, and focus on your physical and mental well-being. These spaces can range from a quiet corner for meditation or reading to a full-fledged yoga studio or a spa-like bathroom retreat. The key is to design them with elements that promote relaxation, such as abundant natural light, calming colors, and the soothing presence of indoor plants . It’s about curating an environment that actively supports your journey to a healthier, more balanced life.

Why it’s hot for Fall 2025: The collective consciousness is shifting towards holistic well-being. As we spend more time at home, the desire to make these spaces work harder for our health and happiness becomes paramount. Fall, with its emphasis on introspection and slowing down, is the perfect season to cultivate such a space.  I also think it’s a great reminder to treat every day as a special occasion.  Quit waiting for the right moment to burn your favorite candle!

DIY Them for Less:

  • Create a Designated Corner: You don’t need an entire room. Use a freestanding room divider (DIY one from old pallets or fabric panels) or strategically arrange existing furniture to define a quiet corner. Even a large, comfortable armchair with a small side table can become your personal wellness nook.
  • Incorporate Natural Elements: Bring the outdoors in with affordable indoor plants. Look for easy-to-care-for varieties like snake plants, ZZ plants, or Pothos. Small tabletop water features can provide soothing sounds, or you can simply place a bowl of water with floating flowers. For calming scents, consider making your own potpourri with dried orange peels, cinnamon sticks, and cloves, or use an essential oil diffuser (many affordable options are available online).
  • Soft Furnishings: Comfort is key. Layer soft blankets and pillows on your designated seating area. If you practice yoga or meditation, invest in an affordable mat and cushions. For a spa-like bathroom, swap out old towels for plush, white ones (often found on sale) and add a soft bath mat. You can even DIY a bath caddy from a piece of reclaimed wood to hold a book and a cup of tea.
  • DIY Aromatherapy Diffusers or Natural Air Fresheners: Create your own essential oil blends for diffusers using inexpensive oils like lavender, eucalyptus, or citrus. For natural air fresheners, simmer citrus peels, cinnamon, and cloves on the stove, or create sachets filled with dried herbs like rosemary and mint. These small touches elevate the sensory experience without the big price tag.

Textural Richness and Bold Statements

Beyond comfort and calm, fall is all about inviting us to play with texture and make bold statements within our homes. Now is the time to add depth, character, and a touch of the unexpected to our interiors, transforming flat surfaces into captivating focal points. Two trends stand out in this regard: the resurgence of textured walls and ceilings, and the dramatic impact of color-drenched rooms.

Textured Walls & Ceilings

Say goodbye to bland, uninspired walls. For Fall 2025, surfaces are coming alive with a tapestry of textures, from the subtle drama of wallpapered ceilings to the rustic charm of wood paneling and the sophisticated artistry of decorative plaster finishes . This trend is a celebration of tactile experiences, inviting us to not only see but also feel our surroundings. It’s about adding a layer of visual and physical interest that can dramatically alter the mood and perception of a room, making it feel more intimate, luxurious, or creatively inspired.

Why it’s hot for Fall 2025: As we seek to create more personalized and unique living spaces, textured surfaces offer an immediate way to inject character and depth. They provide a dynamic backdrop that can highlight furniture, art, and other decor elements, making a strong design statement without overwhelming the space. The warmth and dimension they add are just extra appealing as we transition into the cozier months.

DIY Them for Less:

  • Peel-and-Stick Wallpaper for Ceilings or Accent Walls: This is perhaps the easiest and most budget-friendly way to introduce texture. Modern peel-and-stick wallpapers come in an astonishing array of textures, from faux grasscloth and linen to subtle geometric patterns. Applying it to a ceiling can create an unexpected and dramatic effect, while an accent wall can transform a room without a full renovation. Look for sales and clearance sections for even greater savings.
  • DIY Wood Paneling: Achieve the popular shiplap or board and batten look without the high cost of professional installation. Inexpensive plywood can be cut into strips and applied directly to your walls. For a rustic feel, use reclaimed pallet wood. Paint or stain it to match your desired aesthetic. There are countless online tutorials for these DIY projects, making them accessible even for beginners.
  • Textured Paint Techniques: Create the illusion of texture with paint. Techniques like sponging, rag rolling, or even using a stiff brush can add subtle depth. For a more dramatic effect, consider a faux Venetian plaster look using joint compound. This involves applying thin layers of joint compound with a trowel or putty knife, then sanding and sealing for a smooth, stone-like finish. Practice on a scrap piece of drywall first to get the hang of it. Another option is to use wall stencils to create the look of patterned wallpaper for less.  Places like Etsy are a great place to start for wall stencils.

Color Drenched Rooms

For those who love to make a bold statement, Fall 2025 brings the captivating trend of color-drenched rooms. This design approach involves using a single hue in varying shades and tones across walls, trim, furniture, and even accessories, creating a cohesive, immersive, and incredibly impactful look . It’s a powerful way to infuse a room with personality, emotion, and a sense of playful sophistication. Rather than just painting walls, color drenching extends the chosen color to architectural details, built-ins, and sometimes even the ceiling, enveloping the space in a singular, harmonious wash of color.

Why it’s hot for Fall 2025: After years of neutral dominance, there’s a growing desire for interiors that feel vibrant and expressive. Color drenching allows for a dramatic transformation that feels both modern and timeless. It creates a strong visual identity and can make a room feel larger and more unified by blurring the lines between different surfaces.

DIY Them for Less:

  • Choose a Dominant Color and Vary Shades: Select a color you love and then gather paint swatches in lighter and darker variations of that hue. Use the darkest shade on the walls, a slightly lighter one on trim, and even lighter shades for furniture pieces or accessories. This creates depth and interest without introducing new colors.  The good news is that the painting technique called colour capping also has the affect of making your ceilings look taller.  Check that article out rewt.
  • Paint Everything: The beauty of color drenching is its commitment. Don’t be afraid to paint walls, trim, doors, and even an old bookshelf or dresser in your chosen color palette. This creates a seamless, enveloping effect. Look for paint in the ‘oops’ section of hardware stores for discounted colors that might just be perfect for your project.
  • DIY Monochromatic Art: Create your own abstract art pieces using different shades of your chosen color. Simply paint canvases or even thick paper with various tones, layering and blending them. Frame them in simple, inexpensive frames (which you can also paint to match!) for a cohesive and personalized touch. This is a fantastic way to fill large wall spaces affordably.

Sustainable Style and Sensory Experiences

Another major trend is that towards sustainability and personal-being.  Fall 2025 reflects this heightened consciousness, with trends that prioritize both environmental responsibility and the creation of spaces that engage all our senses. It’s about living beautifully and responsibly, fostering a deeper connection with our surroundings.

Sustainability: Eco-Friendly Living

Sustainability is no longer a niche concept in interior design; it’s a fundamental principle guiding our choices for Fall 2025. This trend emphasizes creating beautiful homes that are also kind to the planet, focusing on materials and practices that minimize environmental impact. We’re seeing a strong push towards vegan leathers, non-toxic materials, and eco-friendly products, alongside a renewed appreciation for reusable and repurposable items . It’s about making conscious decisions that contribute to a healthier home and a healthier planet, without compromising on style.

Why it’s hot for Fall 2025: The urgency of climate change and a desire for healthier living environments are driving this trend. Consumers are increasingly seeking transparency and ethical production, making sustainable choices a priority. Fall, with its natural cycles of renewal, provides a fitting backdrop for embracing eco-conscious living.

DIY Them for Less:

  • Upcycle and Repurpose Old Furniture or Decor Items: Before buying new, look at what you already own or what you can find secondhand. An old dresser can be transformed with a fresh coat of non-toxic paint and new hardware. A vintage ladder can become a unique bookshelf. Old glass jars can be repurposed as vases or storage containers. The possibilities are endless, and the environmental benefits are significant.
  • Choose Natural Fibers for Textiles: When purchasing new textiles, opt for natural fibers like organic cotton, linen, hemp, or wool. These materials are biodegradable and often produced with less environmental impact than synthetics. Look for sales on natural fiber fabrics and sew your own throw pillow covers, curtains, or even simple blankets.
  • DIY Natural Cleaning Products and Air Fresheners: Reduce your exposure to harsh chemicals and your environmental footprint by making your own cleaning solutions. Vinegar, baking soda, lemon juice, and essential oils can tackle most household cleaning tasks effectively and affordably. For air fresheners, simmer spices, citrus peels, or herbs on the stove, or create sachets with dried lavender or cedar chips.
  • Incorporate Thrifted and Secondhand Finds: Embrace the thrill of the hunt! Thrift stores, flea markets, and online marketplaces are treasure troves for unique, pre-loved items. Look for furniture with good bones, vintage decor pieces, or even art that can be given a new life with a little cleaning or paint. This not only saves money but also reduces waste and adds character to your home.

Sensorial Interior Design

For Fall 2025, interior design is evolving beyond purely visual aesthetics to engage all our senses, creating truly immersive and deeply personal environments. Sensorial design incorporates textures, scents, sounds, and lighting to evoke specific moods and enhance our overall well-being . It’s about understanding how our surroundings impact our emotions and using design elements to create spaces that feel calming, energizing, or inspiring, depending on their purpose. This trend recognizes that a truly beautiful home is one that feels good on every level.

Why it’s hot for Fall 2025: In an increasingly digital world, there’s a growing yearning for tangible, sensory experiences. This trend allows us to create spaces that are not just visually appealing but also emotionally resonant, fostering a deeper connection to our homes. The rich sensory experiences align perfectly with the cozy, introspective nature of the fall season.

DIY Them for Less:

  • Introduce Varied Textures: Engage the sense of touch by layering different textures. Think a plush faux fur rug underfoot, soft velvet throw pillows on your sofa, a chunky knit blanket draped over an armchair, and smooth ceramic vases on a wooden shelf. You can find affordable fabrics and materials at craft stores or by repurposing old garments and blankets.
  • Use Essential Oil Diffusers for Calming Scents: Scent has a powerful impact on mood. Invest in an inexpensive essential oil diffuser and experiment with calming blends like lavender and chamomile for bedrooms, or invigorating citrus and peppermint for workspaces. You can also create your own room sprays using distilled water, witch hazel, and essential oils.
  • Create a Soothing Soundscape: Introduce subtle, calming sounds into your space. A small tabletop water fountain can provide gentle trickling sounds. For a more ambient experience, consider playing soft instrumental music or nature sounds. You can even DIY wind chimes from found objects like seashells or small pieces of driftwood.
  • Layer Lighting: Lighting is crucial for setting the mood. Beyond overhead fixtures, incorporate multiple light sources. Use dimmable bulbs to adjust brightness. Add accent lighting with small table lamps or battery-operated LED strips under shelves. Candles, as mentioned before, are excellent for creating a warm, inviting glow. You can also DIY decorative lampshades from fabric scraps or paper to diffuse light beautifully.

Comfort, Character, and Nostalgia

Fall 2025 also celebrates the enduring appeal of comfort and the unique character that comes from embracing history and personal stories within our homes.  This is by far one of my favorite “trends” over the past few years in particular!!  Consider this another nudge to focus on creating spaces that feel lived-in, loved, and full of personality, moving away from overly curated or impersonal aesthetics.  Two trends beautifully embody this sentiment: the allure of casually comfortable furniture and the charming revival of vintage and retro influences.

Casually Comfortable Furniture

Gone are the days of stiff, formal furniture that prioritizes appearance over comfort. For Fall 2025, the focus is squarely on creating relaxed, inviting spaces where you can truly unwind. This trend champions oversized sofas, deep-seated chairs, and furniture with soft, rounded edges, all designed to encourage lounging and relaxation . It’s about furniture that is as practical and cozy as it is aesthetically pleasing, blending seamlessly with both modern and traditional decor. The emphasis is on creating an atmosphere that feels effortless, approachable, and utterly comfortable, perfect for cozy fall evenings.

Why it’s hot for Fall 2025: After a period of more structured and minimalist designs, there’s a collective yearning for comfort and ease. This trend reflects a desire for homes that are truly lived in, where relaxation is paramount. The soft lines and plush textures are particularly appealing as we seek warmth and coziness during the cooler months.

DIY Them for Less:

  • Add Oversized Throw Pillows and Blankets: The quickest way to make existing furniture feel more comfortable and inviting is to pile on oversized throw pillows and plush blankets. Look for sales on pillow inserts and fabric remnants to sew your own covers. Choose materials like faux fur, chunky knits, or soft velvet for maximum coziness. A large, soft blanket draped over a sofa or armchair instantly transforms its look and feel.
  • Create DIY Slipcovers: If your sofa or chairs have good bones but the upholstery is dated or worn, consider making DIY slipcovers. This is a fantastic way to give furniture a fresh, casual look without the expense of reupholstering. Choose durable, washable fabrics like cotton duck or linen blends. There are many online tutorials and patterns available for various furniture styles. This also allows for easy cleaning and seasonal changes.
  • Look for Secondhand Furniture with Good Bones: Thrift stores, consignment shops, and online marketplaces are excellent places to find well-made, comfortable furniture at a fraction of the cost. Look for pieces with sturdy frames that might just need a little love. I still dream of a the coolest vintage velvet sofa I sold for $200 at least 10 years ago and how I would give it new life!  You can reupholster cushions, paint wooden frames, or simply add new legs to update their look. The key is to see the potential beyond the current condition.

Vintage & Retro Influences

Fall 2025 sees a delightful resurgence of vintage and retro styles, but with a distinctly modern twist. This trend is all about infusing contemporary homes with a sense of history, personality, and nostalgia by incorporating vintage furniture, bold patterns, and unique decor items . It’s not about recreating a bygone era entirely, but rather about thoughtfully mixing old and new elements to create eclectic, one-of-a-kind interiors that tell a story. From mid-century modern pieces to 70s-inspired patterns, the past is being celebrated in a fresh and exciting way.

Why it’s hot for Fall 2025: In an age of mass production, there’s a growing desire for authenticity and individuality. Vintage pieces offer unique character and a sustainable alternative to new purchases. The nostalgia factor also plays a role, evoking a sense of comfort and familiarity. I love that this movement lends itself to so much creativity and personal expression!

DIY Them for Less:

  • Thrift Store Hunting for Unique Vintage Pieces: Make regular visits to local thrift stores, antique malls, and flea markets. But also Facebook Marketplace?   I have friends that have scored some of the best pieces on Marketplace by setting filters and searching beyond local markets, especially in more competitive cities like Austin.  Look for unique vintage vases, lamps, small furniture pieces (like side tables or bar carts), and decorative objects. Don’t be afraid to haggle a little! These finds often require minimal effort to clean up and integrate into your existing decor.
  • DIY Distressed or Aged Finishes: If you can’t find authentic vintage pieces, you can create the look yourself. Use chalk paint or milk paint to give new or inexpensive furniture a distressed, aged finish. Sanding down edges and applying a dark wax can mimic years of wear. For metal items, consider using a patina kit to create an antique brass or copper look.
  • Create a Gallery Wall with Vintage-Inspired Prints: Print out public domain vintage art, old botanical illustrations, or even family photos from past decades. Frame them in a mix of new and thrifted frames (which you can paint to match your aesthetic). Arrange them in a cohesive gallery wall for a personalized and visually interesting display that celebrates history and art. You can also find affordable vintage posters or maps online to add to your collection.

Colors and Elements of Fall

No discussion of fall home trends would be complete without delving into the rich palette of colors and natural elements that define the season. For Fall 2025, these trends are all about bringing the warmth, depth, and organic beauty of autumn indoors, creating spaces that feel grounded, inviting, and deeply connected to the natural world.

Earth Tone Color Palette

This fall, the earth tone color palette takes on a moodier, muddier, and more dramatic profile, moving beyond simple neutrals to embrace richer, deeper shades. Think warm rusts, deep olive greens, sophisticated charcoals, rich browns (like mocha, chestnut, espresso, and saddle brown), and hints of plum and ochre . These hues add a cozy, dramatic feel to a space and work beautifully with the textures and organics of fall, creating an atmosphere of quiet luxury that feels both relaxed and polished. Brown, in particular, is having a significant moment, pairing effortlessly with other fall favorites like rust, mustard, and deep olive.

Why it’s hot for Fall 2025: Earth tones provide a sense of stability and connection to nature, which is increasingly sought after in our homes. The deeper, more saturated versions of these colors offer a sophisticated backdrop that feels both comforting and chic, perfectly aligning with the desire for cozy, layered interiors as the weather cools.

DIY Them for Less:

  • Paint an Accent Wall: A single accent wall in a deep earth tone can dramatically transform a room without requiring a full repaint. Choose a wall that serves as a focal point, such as behind a sofa or bed, and paint it in a rich rust, deep olive, or warm charcoal. This creates instant depth and a cozy ambiance.
  • Incorporate Throw Pillows, Blankets, or Ceramics: This is one of the easiest and most affordable ways to introduce the trending earth tones. Look for throw pillows and blankets in varying shades of brown, rust, or deep green. Ceramic vases, bowls, or planters in terracotta, muted greens, or charcoal can also add subtle pops of these colors. Mix and match textures for added visual interest.
  • DIY Fall Foliage Arrangements: Bring the actual colors of fall indoors by creating your own arrangements. Collect dried leaves, branches, and seed pods from your yard or local park. Arrange them in simple vases or baskets. You can even spray paint some leaves with a matte finish in a complementary earth tone for a more curated look. This is a free and beautiful way to embrace the season’s palette.

Natural Woven Decor

Natural woven materials continue their strong presence in Fall 2025, adding organic beauty, interesting texture, and warmth to any room. Woven materials are making their way into all kinds of interior design styles–not longer just for coastal style interiors!

Beyond traditional baskets, you’ll find woven items made from rattan, cane, wicker, seagrass, jute, and bamboo appearing in new and classic forms, such as trays, wrapped vases, lampshades, and even furniture details . The trend leans towards darker or more weathered finishes for a fall-inspired look, providing that cozy, textural feel the season is known for.

Why it’s hot for Fall 2025: Natural materials connect us to the environment and bring a sense of calm and authenticity to our homes. Their inherent textures add depth and warmth, making them perfect for creating inviting spaces. The versatility of woven decor allows it to blend seamlessly with various design styles, from bohemian to modern farmhouse.

DIY Them for Less:

  • DIY Woven Wall Hangings: Create simple yet impactful wall art using jute twine, macrame cord, or even strips of old fabric. There are many beginner-friendly macrame patterns available online for free. You can also weave strips of fabric through a simple frame made from sticks or dowels to create a textured piece of art.

  • Repurpose Old Baskets or Trays: Give old, unused baskets or trays a new lease on life. Clean them thoroughly, and if desired, give them a fresh coat of paint in a neutral or earthy tone, or a stain to enhance their natural wood grain. Use them for storage, as decorative accents on coffee tables, or to hold your DIY fall foliage arrangements.

  • Create DIY Lampshades with Woven Materials: Transform a plain lampshade by wrapping it with jute twine or raffia. Secure the material with hot glue, starting from the top or bottom and working your way around. This adds instant texture and a natural, bohemian vibe to your lighting. You can also find inexpensive woven placemats and attach them to a simple wire frame to create unique pendant lights.

Acorns & Animal Motifs

This fall, tiny treasures and charming creatures are having a big moment in home decor. Acorns, symbolizing strength, resilience, and hard work, are officially trending, appearing in creative ways from decorative bowls to larger brass versions . Alongside them, subtle animal motifs—think birds, foxes, owls, deer, and squirrels—are subtly worked into pillows, art prints, dishware, and seasonal accessories . These natural, woodland-inspired touches feel right at home in fall decorating, pairing beautifully with the organic textures and earthy colors that are so popular this season.

Why it’s hot for Fall 2025: These motifs bring a whimsical, personal touch to interiors, connecting us to the beauty of the natural world and evoking a sense of nostalgia and charm. They allow for playful expression while maintaining a sophisticated aesthetic, making them perfect for adding character to your fall decor.

DIY Them for Less:

  • Collect and De-bug Real Acorns: Take a walk in nature and gather fallen acorns. To prepare them for indoor decorating, clean off any dirt and bake them on a foil-lined baking sheet at 200°F (with the oven door slightly ajar) for about an hour. This dries them out and eliminates any pests. Once cooled, display them in clear glass bowls, scatter them on a mantel, or string them into a garland.
  • DIY Animal-Themed Stencils for Pillows or Wall Art: Find simple animal silhouettes online and create your own stencils from cardstock or freezer paper. Use fabric paint to stencil designs onto plain throw pillow covers or canvas tote bags. For wall art, stencil a repeating pattern of a favorite animal onto a canvas or directly onto an accent wall using regular wall paint. This allows for personalized, on-trend decor at minimal cost.
  • Create Simple Fall Vignettes with Natural Elements and Small Animal Figurines: Combine your collected acorns and leaves with small, inexpensive animal figurines (look for them at craft stores, dollar stores, or even children’s toy sections). Arrange them on a tray, bookshelf, or windowsill with candles or small pumpkins for a charming and cohesive fall display. You can also find printable vintage animal illustrations online and frame them for an artful touch.

Brass Accents

Brass is undeniably a metal of the moment especially for Fall 2025, bringing a warm, classic glow to spaces and working beautifully with almost every decorating style. This year’s brass finishes lean towards softer, more brushed looks rather than bright and shiny, giving them an aged, collected appearance that blends seamlessly with fall’s cozy, layered decor . It’s a sophisticated touch that adds richness and timeless style without being overly flashy, perfectly complementing the earthy tones and natural textures of the season.

Why it’s hot for Fall 2025: Brass adds an element of understated luxury and warmth, which is highly desirable as we move into cooler weather. Its versatility allows it to be incorporated into various design aesthetics, from traditional to contemporary, making it a perennial favorite that feels fresh and relevant this season.

DIY Them for Less:

  • Spray Paint Old Metal Decor Items: Give old picture frames, candle holders, or even small decorative objects a modern update with a can of brushed brass spray paint. Look for paints specifically designed for metal for the best adhesion and finish. This instantly elevates the look of existing items and brings them in line with the trend.
  • Replace Cabinet Hardware or Light Fixtures: Swapping out old cabinet pulls, drawer knobs, or even a dated light fixture for new brass ones can make a significant impact. Look for affordable options at hardware stores or online retailers. This small change can instantly modernize a kitchen or bathroom and add a touch of warmth.
  • DIY Brass-Inspired Candle Holders: Create unique candle holders using copper pipes or fittings from a hardware store. These can be cut and assembled into various geometric shapes and then spray painted with a brushed brass finish. This project allows for creative expression and results in a custom piece that looks far more expensive than it is.

This season is all about creating spaces that are not just beautiful, but also deeply personal, comfortable, and reflective of a conscious lifestyle. From the serene simplicity of Japandi and the nurturing embrace of home wellness spaces to the bold statements of textured walls and color-drenched rooms, and the comforting allure of vintage finds and natural elements, these trends invite us to transform our homes into true sanctuaries. They emphasize a return to authenticity, a celebration of individuality, and a commitment to well-being and sustainability.  Happy “new year”!
