Top 10 Interior Design Trends For 2025
1. Sustainable Materials
You’ll find sustainable materials like bamboo, reclaimed wood, and recycled metals gaining popularity. These materials not only reduce environmental impact but also bring warmth and character to your space.
2. Biophilic Design
You’re encouraged to incorporate biophilic elements, emphasizing connections to nature. Think indoor plants, natural light, and organic shapes to foster a calming atmosphere. Also in this category is natural stone, especially natural (veiny!) marble in bathrooms, kitchens, fireplace surrounds.
3. Bold Color Palettes
You can expect bold, vibrant colors to dominate interior spaces. Shades like deep greens, rich blues, and striking corals will make an unforgettable statement in your home.
Along with the use of bold colors, you can also expect to see more color drenching. If you’re not familiar with the term, color drenching refers to painting every surface including trims and ceilings in the same color. The trend was really popularized in the United States last year, but it has been around for a loooong time in other regions. It’s a great way to make a big impact with less expense, than let’s say wallpaper.
4. Maximalism
You’ll see maximalism making a comeback, with layered patterns and textures creating dynamic spaces. Feel free to mix prints, colors, and styles to express your personality.
5. Multipurpose Spaces
You should consider multipurpose rooms that adapt to your lifestyle. With remote work on the rise, think about how your home can serve as a workspace, gym, and relaxation area all in one.
6. Smart Home Technology
You’re encouraged to embrace smart home technology, integrating devices for convenience and efficiency. From smart lighting to advanced security systems, these features enhance your lifestyle.
7. Curved Furniture
Curves and arches have been a popular trend for several years now but look for curved furniture gaining traction in 2025, adding softness to your interiors. Expect to see more sofas and chairs with rounded edges to create a more inviting environment.
A while back I read a book called “Joyful: The Surprising Power of Ordinary things to Create Extraordinary Happiness” where the author covers quite a topics related to bringing Joy to interior spaces. The author, Ingrid Fetell Lee, discusses how round objects evoke joy because they are associated with positive emotions. This chapter of the book fully sold me on the importance of having the right blend of straight-edge and rounded corners when designing a space. I’m inspired by all the scalloped edges, spherical pillows, and rounded edges in furniture (even kitchen islands!) and looking forward to more of it in 2025.
8. Vintage Revival
You might explore vintage elements that bring nostalgia into modern design. Scouring thrift stores and online marketplaces can help you find unique pieces that tell a story.
9. Textured Walls
You can implement textured walls using materials like plaster, wood paneling, or even wallpaper. These elements add depth and interest, making your space visually engaging. Limewash and venetian plaster walls had a surge in popular in 2024 that I expect to remain strong in 2025. The textured look of limewash will give you that organic feel without the expense of a natural stone, marble or wallpaper.
10. Statement Lighting Fixtures
You should invest in statement lighting fixtures that act as focal points. Oversized chandeliers or sculptural pendants can transform a room and enhance your overall design aesthetic. One more trend I would group in this category is the use of flush-mounted light fixtures versus recessed lighting, particularly in kitchens. Have you noticed this trend? How do you feel about it?

While I can’t say I’m ready to lose recessed lighting, I am really leaning into the look of these tube lights over a kitchen island and also in a long hallway. I think in applications where you would typically have quite a few recessed lights, the tube lights can feel a bit obtrusive.
So there you have my top ten, but here are some more trends on my list of 2025 design trends.

Decluttering Techniques
Decluttering is vital in achieving a minimalist aesthetic. You can start by categorizing items into “keep,” “donate,” and “discard” piles. Focus on maximizing vertical storage to keep surfaces clear. Utilizing multifunctional furniture, like ottomans with hidden storage, helps minimize mess. Regularly reevaluating your belongings ensures only items that spark joy remain in your space.
Neutral Color Palettes
Neutral color palettes are key to minimalist design in 2025. You can choose soft hues like beige, gray, and white that create a tranquil atmosphere. Consider adding accent colors sparingly, such as muted greens or blues, for visual interest without overwhelming the space. Emphasizing natural materials, like wood and stone, complements these tones beautifully, enhancing the overall serenity of your home.
Exploring Bold Colors and Patterns
Bold colors and dynamic patterns are taking center stage in interior design for 2025. These design elements not only make a statement but also infuse energy and personality into your living spaces. And yes, I know what you’re thinking there is room for both neutral color palettes AND bold colors. Try starting with a neutral base and add pops of color through accessories and art.
Vibrant Accent Walls
Accent walls are becoming a popular way to showcase bold colors, adding depth and dimension to any room. You can choose from vibrant hues like deep emerald greens or rich navy blues, allowing your walls to create striking contrasts against lighter furnishings. By using paint, wallpaper, or even textured materials, you’ll set the tone for the entire space and inspire creativity. Embrace geometric patterns or large-scale murals for an eye-catching focal point that can transform an ordinary room into a design masterpiece.
Unique Textures in Fabrics
Unique textures in fabrics are essential for embracing bold patterns in 2025. You’ll find an array of textiles featuring intricate designs, whether it’s plush velvets, woven tapestries, or graphic prints. Layering these textured fabrics in your decor adds visual intrigue and tactile appeal, enhancing comfort and style. Consider using patterned throw pillows, dramatic drapes, or statement rugs to accentuate your bold design choices. Mixing various textures can create a harmonious yet dynamic atmosphere, making your home feel both inviting and stylish.
Incorporating Multifunctional Spaces
Incorporating multifunctional spaces is essential for adapting to modern lifestyles. This trend really began to emerge during COVID when many families needed closets that doubled as an office or dining rooms that doubled as a playroom. You can create versatile areas that serve multiple purposes with a little bit of creativity, enhancing both utility and style in your home.
Room Dividers for Flexibility
Using room dividers increases flexibility in your living spaces. You can opt for sliding doors, bookshelves, or decorative screens to create distinct zones while maintaining an open feel. These dividers allow you to transition seamlessly between a cozy work nook and a vibrant relaxation area. Additionally, you can experiment with materials like glass or wood to suit your aesthetic while optimizing the flow of natural light.
Convertible Furniture Options
Exploring convertible furniture options maximizes your space’s functionality. You can invest in sofa beds, extendable dining tables, or ottomans that open for storage, ensuring your furniture adapts to your needs. These pieces not only save space but also add style, giving you a streamlined look without sacrificing comfort. By choosing multifunctional furniture, you’ll effortlessly tailor your environment, making it suitable for everything from entertaining guests to enjoying a quiet evening at home.
Reviving Retro Styles
Reviving retro styles is making a bold comeback in 2025, blending nostalgia with contemporary aesthetics to create unique living spaces. You can expect influences from various decades to enhance your home’s design. IMO a balanced space always includes a healthy mix of vintage and new.
Mid-Century Modern Influences
Mid-century modern influences are often still taking center stage, characterized by clean lines, organic forms, and minimal ornamentation.
Incorporating iconic materials such as teak, walnut, and leather adds warmth and authenticity. Mixing these elements with modern accessories creates a balanced look that feels fresh and inviting.
Focusing on Wellness Spaces
Wellness is becoming a priority in interior design, influencing how you create serene environments within your home. The focus on wellness spaces encourages the integration of areas dedicated to relaxation, fitness, and mindfulness.
Home Gyms and Studios
Home gyms and studios are essential for staying active and healthy in 2025. You can opt for versatile equipment like resistance bands or foldable yoga mats to save space. Incorporating large mirrors energizes the room, allowing you to monitor form and create a sense of openness. Consider adding plants to improve air quality and create a refreshing ambiance, integrating nature into your workouts. Using wood or cork flooring provides an inviting touch, while soft lighting creates a motivating atmosphere. Your home gym shouldn’t just be a workout space; it should be a sanctuary that inspires you to move and thrive every day.
Highlighting Artistic Expressions
Artistic expressions in interior design for 2025 emphasize individuality and creativity, transforming living spaces into personal galleries.
Custom Artwork Displays
Custom artwork displays are becoming increasingly popular as unique ways to reflect your personality and style. Consider commissioning local artists for one-of-a-kind pieces that resonate with you. Create a cohesive gallery wall featuring your favorite photos, prints, or paintings, ensuring they complement your room’s color scheme. Experiment with varying frame styles and sizes to add visual interest and depth to the display. By incorporating custom artwork, you elevate your space into a personal showcase that tells your story.
Statement Pieces in Decor
Statement pieces in decor are essential for making bold impressions in any room. Opt for oversized sculptures, vibrant paintings, or striking furniture that acts as conversation starters. Choose a single item that draws the eye and anchors the space, such as an elaborate chandelier or an eccentric chair. Incorporate contrasting colors or textures to enhance the visual impact of these statement pieces. By curating standout elements in your decor, you infuse character and personality into your interiors.
Prioritizing Outdoor Living
Prioritizing outdoor living is essential for enhancing your home’s aesthetic and functionality in 2025. Embracing nature not only expands your living space but also fosters relaxation and connection with the environment.
Outdoor Patios and Decks
Outdoor patios and decks are becoming key features of modern homes. You can create seamless outdoor areas by using durable materials like composite wood or natural stone that withstand weather changes.
Consider integrating comfortable seating sets, outdoor kitchens, or fire pits to transform spaces into perfect spots for gatherings or peaceful retreats. You’ll find that adding greenery, such as potted plants or vertical gardens, enhances the overall ambiance while providing a natural touch.
Indoor-Outdoor Flow
Indoor-outdoor flow is gaining significant attention in 2025. You can achieve this by using large sliding glass doors or bi-fold windows that open up your living areas to the outside. This approach allows natural light to flood your interiors while creating an inviting transition to outdoor spaces. Consider using similar design elements and colors for both inside and outside to create a cohesive aesthetic. You’ll appreciate how this connection not only extends your living space but also promotes a more vibrant lifestyle.
Adapting to Mixed Materials
In 2025, mixing materials is a key trend that brings versatility and character to your spaces. By combining different textures, you can achieve a unique look that reflects your style.
Combining Wood, Metal, and Glass
You can create striking visuals by blending wood, metal, and glass in your design. Wood adds warmth and organic charm, while metal introduces modernity and a hint of sophistication. Glass serves as a sleek, transparent element that enhances openness and light. For example, using wooden furniture with metal fixtures and glass accents gives your room a balanced aesthetic. You might choose dining tables with metal legs and glass tops, or wooden shelving units against metal frames, providing a contemporary flair to any space.
Mixed Metals
Mixing metals is tried and true designer trick to add interest and depth to a design. Of course, there are some guidelines like first choosing a dominant metal and limiting the palate to 2-3 different metal types. We have seen brass take the center stage in metal finishes for the past several years but I’m predicting the rise of silver! I hate to play favorites because I think there is a place for all metal finishes, but if I had to pick….polished nickel. Polished nickel is a timeless choice with just the right amount of warmth and patina. If you are looking to add some interest and depth in your space, consider adding in silver accessories, light fixtures, drawer pulls in a silver finish (like polish nickel) that pair so nicely with the popular brass and iron finishes.
Layering Textures for Depth
It’s all in the mix! You can elevate your interior by layering textures, making your home feel more inviting and dynamic. Incorporating various materials like textiles, ceramics, and natural fibers creates visual interest. For instance, you could layer soft throw pillows in different fabrics on a velvet sofa, while adding ceramic vases for contrast. Mixing patterns, such as geometric designs and florals, can also enrich the overall design. By thoughtfully combining these elements, you create dimension and depth, allowing your space to resonate with warmth and comfort.
Conclusion
Embracing the interior design trends of 2025 can transform your living spaces into stylish and functional havens. By focusing on sustainability and incorporating natural elements you’ll not only enhance aesthetics but also promote a healthier environment.
The rise of bold colors and mixed materials invites creativity while multifunctional spaces cater to modern lifestyles. Prioritizing wellness and artistic expressions in your home will create a unique atmosphere that reflects your style and supports your well-being.
