In the past year, many people have had the opportunity to skip the commute and work from home more than ever. We have all seen the value in flexibility and a sort of freedom that a remote position provides. Unsurprisingly, there has also been more reader interest in side gigs for nights, evening and otherwise “free time” to make some extra cash from home.
I’m here to tell you there are more options that ever to earn some extra money online in your free time that will give you that flexibility with your schedule and income.
I’ve covered the topic of how to make some extra cash in your free time quite a bit so be sure to check out:

But here I’m going to specifically the cover part-time evening jobs that are going to give you the most bang (money) for your (time) buck. Let’s be honest, there are a lot of scammy sites out there with promises of earning cash for 20 minutes of your time that somehow turn into an hours work for a $5 Starbucks gift card. Or worse yet, beware of sites that require to accumulate a certain number of points until they pay out. Lucky for you, I have compiled a list of REAL opportunities to earn extra cash in the evenings from home.
No need to plug in your email, create accounts, and trial a bunch of sites. These are all 100% legit sources or opportunities to earn a side income.
Whether you are a stay at home parent, fully employed and looking for extra work, or unemployed, flag this, bookmark this and refer back for ways to moonlight for extra cash. In particular, stay at home parents are often looking for ways to grow their income while making themselves available during the day for their kids.
I promise this list will get your wheels turning, regardless of your experience and skills, on how to make some extra money in your own time. In fact, the criteria of the jobs on this list including any or ALL of the following:
- growth potential (in skill and income)
- it is NOT seasonal
- it does not require specialized/advanced skillset
- opportunity for training
- flexible hours or schedule
- and flexible location
First, let’s walk through the three major categories of night and evening jobs that you will likely need to decide on first.
The first option is to build your own small business.
For many this is just too much to take on. In particular, while you as the business owner will have control over your schedule, you may need to burn the midnight oil AND put in some hours during the day to keep things running. If at any point you need to hire help to delegate smaller tasks you are in complete control of that too.
The key is to make sure you have a solid strategy in place to make your dream hustle/side hustle a reality, and a reality that pays. If you are an ambitious, self-starter looking to grow something big or small, this may be the right choice for you!
The next option is to work as an employee for someone else.
Working for someone else has quite a few perks to consider if you’re not prepared to take the plunge starting your own small business. For instance, working as an employee can provide more job security, guaranteed income, and perks such as insurance. You may not have as much control over your hours as a employee.
The third and final option falls somewhere in between the other two as a freelancer for other small (or large!) businesses.
Now onto the good stuff. Here are 27 part-time and night or evening jobs that pay.
Blogger
You had to knw that was going to be at the top of my list, right?
Heck, I made $99,765 in my first year of blogging, so naturally blogging always tops my list on the subject of making money online. I’ve now been blogging for over 10 years in addition to running two other full time businesses.
Be sure to check out my post: How to Start a Blog in Under 28 Minutes.
I promise you, it’s not a hoax. Setting up a blog really is that simple, and I walk you through step by step in my guide.
Getting a domain for your blog.
You will need to come up with a clever name and grab a domain. At some point, you will want to search engine optimize your site so the next question that usually follows:
Are .com or .net domains preferred?
First, .COM extensions stand for “commercial” and often preferred by most companies or businesses. The .NET extension represents “network” and was historically used for internet service providers but has since been opened up to all types of sites. Ultimately, domains that end with .COM are most often preferred but .NET extensions are also high ranking. If BOTH .net and .com extensions are available for your site, that is even better. I recommend nabbing both of them.
To check availability, you will want to go to a site like Go Daddy and then domain search here.
If your desired site is not available, they will offer similar alternative (and available) domain names. Domain names that are not overly long are always preferred but can be difficult to find.
As a blogger you may and will update and post content at any hour of the day, giving you complete flexibility over your time. Your income potential is relatively without bounds although most (but not all!) forms of monetization will come into play once have grown your audience.
Here are a few ways you can make money from a blog:
Brand partnerships
This can come in many different forms but the idea is to share promote content, products, or marketing of other brands in exchange for payment
Affiliate Marketing
This is one of my favorite monetization strategies as a blogger. As an affiliate marketer you can promote products (both digital and physical) and collect a commission just for referring one of your followers. There are several databases of affiliate products, some with eligibility requirements that you can start marketing today.
Display Ads
The more traffic to your site, the more you can make on display ads. Mediavine, for example is a big time display ad company but there are many of different ones out there. Growing ad revenue with display ads is a function of : increasing your pageviews (or traffic to your site), writing long blog posts, increasing site speed, and increasing your ad density.
Sponsored posts
This could technically be grouped with brand partnerships but specifically collaborating with brands to write about their company or products
Online products
Digital or physical products that can be sold through your blog
Online coaching
…or other services that are sold through your blog
Online courses
This could be as simple as offering access to video training hosted on YouTube.
Consulting services
One best part about being a blogger is that you can literally write a blog about anything under the sun that interests you. I will say, you will need to spend some time determining the right blog niche. This will allow you to come up with a list (or even schedule) for blog post ideas.
While these are the most common ways to monetize a blog, publishers (bloggers) and brands are getting more creative all the time. Most often profits from a blog that involve collaborations with brands and advertisers are a direct function of the volume of traffic to your site. While there is a point at which a certain number of page views will guarantee profits, there is no hard number or direct translation of page views to profit.
I will say, if you are getting over 100,000 page views a month, you can have a full-time blogging career, earning at least $3,500 a month. Beyond that, the question is more often not how many page views, it’s what are you doing with those page views.
Does your blog have a clear focus? Is your audience engaged? Are they returning, perhaps subscribed to a newsletter? Are they buying products or affiliate products from you?
Or maybe dial back to the basics.
How are your graphics? Are the titles of your posts intriguing? How is your content? Are you sticking to a clear theme/niche for your blog? How is your site performing? Could the look and feel of your site be improved?
Don’t believe for a second that blogging does not have the potential to a serious, highly profitable, full-time endeavor if that is your wish. There are bloggers out there making as much as $10,000 (even $100,000) per month blogging. There is very little financial risk starting a blog. Heck, you can even host a blog for less than $4 a month. However, building and growing a profitable blog platform requires strategy and executive. If you are willing to put forth the effort, you can and will be rewarded with a very high income potential and professional freedom!
Freelance Writer
A freelance writer is not employed by an individual or company, but rather has a contractual obligation for specific deliverables. Whether you are a seasoned writer or blogger, or a new writer with zero experience there are plenty of freelance writing jobs out there that pay. And for those that are willing to roll up their sleeves and improve their writing skills over time, the payoff can be significant. Freelance writers can typically make as much as $100,000 a year, while some make over $200,000 a year.
So how do you get there?
I am just going to put it out there now that a blog platform is one of the easiest ways to open doors to freelance writing jobs. Why? Because a blog is like a portfolio for freelance writers. A blog serves as something you can point to that demonstrate your (written) voice and skills to prospective employers. Bottom line, you are going to need to do more than tell them you’re a great writer. Show them.
So which freelance writers are landing the jobs and getting paid the big bucks?
It’s the ones that :
- Submit error free, proof-read work
- Meet deadlines
- Craft amazing headlines with both readers and google in mind!
- Are good communicators
- Can identify and connect with an audience
Transcriptionist
A transcriptionist converts recorded voice recordings or audio files into text format by typing. The audio recordings can be of all different types from general topics to more specialized medical and legal topics. Of course, transcriptionists in more specialized fields (of medicine and legal) may demand a higher hourly rate.
In order to become a transcriptionist you must have excellent hearing and typing skills. You are also required to have some computer skills, including experience using word processing programs. Some research may also be required from time to time when there are language nuances or expressions that are difficult to catch over audio. And of course, your grammar and spelling skills should be excellent as well as knowledge of proper punctuations. Typically your typing speed will need to be between 60-75 words per minute with an accuracy of 98%.
Recordings can be complicated with unique terminology. Poor audio quality, low and soft voices, and strong accents can all make it difficult to understand and hear the audio files. However, with commitment and focus a successful side-gig in transcription work can offer may benefits including flexibility of schedule, work from home, and an hourly rate as much as $25-30 per hour.
Amazon FBA
If you like the idea of a drop-shipping business but the idea of owning the marketing and scaling of your business sounds too daunting or out of reach, you may want to consider the Amazon Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) program. The model is similar to the DropShip business. However, instead of dropshipping the product directly from the manufacturer to your customer, you will send your products to an Amazon fulfillment centers where they will pack, ship, and provide customer service for those products.
There are several advantages of the Amazon FBA program:
- Access to a broader, larger pool of customers
- Tools to manage your business: product preparation, labeling, and repackaging, customer service and return, and Amazon partnered carrier options.
- Free prime shipping for your customers: with FBA all of your products are eligible for Prime delivery which makes your product all the more attractive to your customers
Fiverr
Upwork
Customer Service Representative
Customer service representative is another option that could fall into the category of freelance work or an employed position. Either way, it is a job that can be performed remotely although most often during regular business hours. There is also often a minimum number of hours that you must log each week.
The minimum requirements in terms of equipment are likely a computer, stable internet connection, and some type of headset. Otherwise, if you’re friendly and reliable, this may be a great option for you.
Proofreading
Do you have a fine attention to detail? Do you have impeccable grammar and punctuation skills?
There has been an explosion in demand for proofreading services. Your job is to simply find and correct mistakes in texts with an excellent attention to detail. Proofreading is a great work from home position. I’ve seen people transform this into their own personal business, but most often individuals are drawn to freelance positions.
Business and publishing organizations require proofreaders to maintain consistency in content quality and readability. Since most businesses also have an online presence as well, this makes remote proofreaders in high demand.
If you like hunting for mistakes, this could be the gig for you! Although there is a high demand for these positions, there also is quite a bit of competition. One way to demonstrate your written skills is to start a blog. You may also consider creating a profile on some of the freelance sites like Fiverr and Upwork. Testimonials and referrals will be important for consistent jobs.
Make videos on YouTube
Did you know that some of those videos that your kids watch on YouTube, you know the ones where a kid reviews toys or does a drawing demonstration, make millions of dollars? In 2020 a nine-year old boy was named the highest earning YouTube star netting close to $30 million from his channel.
Much like blogging, you can make YouTube videos on virtually any topic with little to no overhead. There an upward trend in the demand and consumption of content via video. There are 1.9 Billion active monthly users on YouTube. With that kind of volume and traffic you can probably begin to imagine where and how the money follows.
The general rule of thumb is in order to run ads on your videos and YouTube channel, you will need to gain 1000 subscribers and 4000 hours of videos watched in a 12 month period. Once you run ads, you are paid a small commission every time a single video is watched.
By enabling ads on your YouTube videos, you automatically agree to Google’s ad revenue share for YouTube which is a 55 (you) 45 (Google) split. This may seem like a lot of profit to fork over to Google and YouTube, but consider this a portal to massive amounts of traffic and prospective viewers. Once you grow your traffic and views, there are other ways to monetize your videos including product promotions, affiliate advertising, and sponsors.
Online Teaching
We all learned in the past year in particular that online (practically everything) is the way of the future. And online teaching is just one of those things. There is an increasing demand for remote education at all grade levels, and therefore an increasing demand for work from home, online teachers. If you have a license to teach, your skills are needed to educate and tutor kids (and adults) online through sites like VIPKID.
Another angle with the online teaching is to create online courses or host live instruction on platforms like teachable. Teachable allows you to earn a full-time income reaching millions of students wordwide as an online teacher. To date, online instructors have earned over $932 million dollars on the platform.
To get started you will need to create an online course, upload your content, and “brand” your school. If that sounds daunting, don’t worry they offer design tools with no coding skills required!
Tutor.com
Tutor.com is another online tutoring company that connects teachers with students needing some extra after hours assistance in school subjects. The platform is primarily geared toward students in grade levels 4 through 12, although there are some students at the college level. The site offers support in many different subjects as well as advanced placement and international baccalaureate coursework, and standardized test prep for the SAT, for example.
Tutors are teachers as well as PhD students and industry professionals that are passionate about their subjects of expertise and sharing their knowledge with students.
Indeed
This list wouldn’t be complete with out mention of Indeed.com. If you’re not familiar with Indeed it is a free service for job seekers whether you’re looking for part-time evening, full time, night jobs, you name it. You’ll need a resume to upload on the platform and from there you can browse remote positions that are of interest and apply directly.
ZipRecruiter.com
Same goes with ZipRecruiters as with Indeed. Browse for remote positions and apply online.
SimplyHired.com
Browse job listings and take advantage of the free resume builder with more than thirty templates.
Glassdoor.com
User Testing
There are several sites out there that will pay you to test usability of websites and applications before they go live. User Testing and Userlytics are a couple of these sites (of many) that will pay you around $10 per task for about 20 minutes of your time. This obviously is not going to provide you with a full-time income but if you’re looking for a simple side job to earn some extra cash in the evenings or in your free time, this is not an option to rule out.
Design Crowd
Design crowd is a graphic design marketplace that connects individuals and companies with talented freelance designers and creatives of all types. The types of freelance work you will find on here ranges from business card design to logo design to web design (and more). I have personally used Design Crowd for logo design and the quality was comparable to designs I have had produced by top creative agencies (but at a fraction of the cost). For this reason, this site is a hub of great opportunities and projects of your choosing.
Facebook Marketer
As a Facebook Ads Manager you can support businesses in reaching their potential customers via Facebook Ads. High tech ad systems provided by Facebook are increasingly sophisticated and effective with proper execution prompting the needs for experts on the platform.
Social Media Evaluator
But what if I need quick and guaranteed cash, what are my best options?
Ride-sharing services
Signing up as a driver for Uber and Lyft can provide you with a reliable flow of cash on the night shift. In fact, driving at night is preferred by some drivers because there is very little traffic and surge values can get high. I recommend signing up as a driver for both services which will give you access to a larger pool of calls.
Food Delivery
Food delivery services will always be in demand although a small handful of services are likely offered in the late hours. Late-night food delivery is sure to exist through some delivery services or restaurants in larger cities.
Night Stocker
Warehouses at wholesale stores like Costco and Walmart typically bring on a night crew to stock shelves around midnight for a 5-8 hours shift. Expect an hourly rate between $12 and $17.
And what about the best paying night jobs?
If high income is your top priority and you’re willing to build and grow your own hustle, I would opt for blogging or a drop-shipping business. If you’re less inclined to start your own business, the next best option would be a freelancer which will give you stability and flexibility in your schedule and income.
The good news is that are truly a very generous number of options out there for remote and late night jobs to earn some extra (or full-time) income. The first step is to evaluate whether you needed that cash, like, yesterday or whether you are willing and able to put in the extra sweat equity for a more lucrative and long-term side-hustle or full-time hustle. Others may value flexibility above all else which is certainly an option in a gig economy. If that is you, perhaps a freelance job will give you more control over how many, how often and when you complete projects. Bottom line, regardless of what you may be looking for in terms of flexibility, income potential, and other lifestyle behaviors, there are so many great options out there for remote night and evening work.
